The Emporia High track and field teams open up their season Thursday with the Topeka West Invitational.
The Spartans return four state qualifiers from a season ago. Fred Jackson and Cooper Rech in the 400-meter dash. Daghyn True in the 3,200-meter run and Kyle Obermeyer in the 110 and 300-meter hurdles.
Alexa Shivley is the lone Lady Spartan returning who qualified for state. She qualified in the triple jump.
Events begin at 3:30 p.m. at Hummer Sports Park.
Next Friday, Emporia High will compete in the ESU High School Relays at Welch Stadium.
