The Emporia High girls swim team opened up its season with a fourth place finish in its season opening meet Thursday.
The 200-yard freestyle team of Arianna Hamilton, Taylor Cunningham, Alison Brown and Ryan Peak finished sixth with a time of 2:03.62. The quartet also finished sixth in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 4:49.81.
Brown finished eighth in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 7:03.77.
The 200-yard medley relay of Brooke Monroe, Camryn Spafford, Ashlyn Garriott and Rhiannon Thomas finished 10th (2:45.91).
Monore took 10th in the 100-yard backstroke (1:28). Spafford finished ninth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:37)
Hamilton finished 10th in the 200-yard freestyle (2:41.14)
Peak finished 10th in the 50-yard freestyle (30.24) and ninth in the 100-yard freestyle (1:08.88).
Coach Jamie Dawson says they learned a lot going against a field that featured four Class 6A schools, including the defending state champions in Lawrence Free State.
Up next for the Lady Spartans is a trip to Topeka on Thursday.
