The Emporia High track and field teams opened up the season Thursday at the Topeka West Invitational.
The Spartans had two first place finishes. Fred Jackson won the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.91.
Kyle Obermeyer claimed two top-two finishes in the hurdles. He won the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 44.83 and took second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.94.
Daghyn True earned a pair of second place finishes. He finished the 800-meter run with a time of 2:08.70 and the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:43.43.
The 4×400-meter relay team of Blake Spellman, Obermeyer, True, and Jackson finished third with a time of 3:36.90.
Jeremiah Huber cleared 10-0 good for third in the pole vault.
On the girls side, Elizabeth Willhite had the top finish by winning the 1,600 with a time of 5:45.90.
The 4×800-meter relay team of Baille Van Sickle, Maryn True, Leanna Lewis and Sofia Ruvalcaba finished third with a time of 11:36.86.
Chloe Fischer cleared 6-6 in the pole vault for a third place finish.
Ruvalcaba finished third in the 1,500-meter steeplechase with a time of 8:31.11.
Up next for the Spartans and Lady Spartans is the ESU High School Relays next Friday at Welch Stadium.
