Emporia community members had an opportunity to get their voices heard on a variety of issues Thursday and Friday.
Atlas, in cooperation with the Regional Development Association of East Central Kansas, held vision meetings inside the Little Theatre at White Auditorium Thursday and Friday.
Atlas Vice President Alex Holland says one of her takeaways from the meetings is the excitement and momentum surrounding signature events held in Emporia and Lyon County.
Out of the issues brought up during the meetings, housing was a common topic, whether it be availability or pricing. Even with the two meetings held, collecting data and information doesn’t stop from there according to Holland.
Interviews and focus groups will be held focusing on issues such as broadband, housing, workforce development, small business development and entrepreneurship, public arts, and tourism. A timeline for those meetings has not been announced.
Information gained will assist future strategic planning according to Holland. City Manager Trey Cocking appreciated Atlas’ approach to gaining community input during the meetings.
Cocking and Holland encourage community members who could not make either meeting to take an online survey available at RDA2023.com.
