Change can be good in the long run.
That was the idea behind Humane Society of the Flint Hills Director Stephanie Achille’s recap of 2022 presented to board members during the annual Humane Society of the Flint Hills and Emporia Animal Shelter meeting Tuesday night.
Achille says several changes were made over the past year to help improve operations at the shelter.
One notable change for operations was the length of stay for animals. Compared to 2020 when animals would stay for seven months, that’s now down to just a little over a month.
Animal intakes, adoptions, and animals returning to owners were also on the decline from 2021 to 2022. With 2022 in the rearview mirror, Achille says there’s big plans for the shelter in 2023.
Achille encourages community members to learn more about the shelter by stopping by the facility at 1216 Hatcher or by calling their office at (620) 340-6345.
