An unexpected waterline break managed to speed up a previously planned project in west Emporia Friday morning.
The break was reported at Sixth Ave. and Prairie Street just before 10:30 am. According to Emporia Public Works Director Dean Grant, the line was scheduled for a “tie-in” on Sunday as part of the ongoing construction work on Sixth.
Grant says during the cleanup in the work zone the line in question was struck causing the break. Crews arrived on scene and managed to make repairs and completed the tie-in scheduled for Sunday.
Water service was disrupted to businesses in the area for a short time following the break but has since been fully restored. Additional details including the size of the line are currently pending.
