A significant project connected to the Highland Street renovation process continues this week.
The city’s contractor finished connecting a new waterline between 14th and 15th as part of a major project including underground utilities and new pavement. Water service was briefly affected for portions of the Emporia State campus, the ESU Foundation and the nearby neighborhood.
Storm sewer work at 12th and 14th is next once the new waterline passes all testing. The entire project should be done by mid-August.
Meanwhile, planned construction continues at Hammond Park for the next several weeks.
This is the first full week for the park’s stormwater culvert improvement project, which has work zones immediately east, south and west of the playground area and also at 18th just west of the tennis courts.
Work should be wrapped up by the end of April, weather permitting.
