A scam involving a nearly $11 million policy benefit payment continues to grow in coverage area.

8:30 am Monday: Have you received a partnership request to claim a nearly $11 million policy benefit? It’s likely a scam
There’s yet another scam to warn you about, and it appears to be expanding in coverage area.
The Osage and Wabaunsee County Sheriff’s Offices say the latest scam involves a letter delivered by the US Postal Service for a nearly $11 million “payable on death” monetary deposit in a Toronto, Canada, bank after the death of an energy company engineer. The letter asks potential victims for their consent to be in a partnership to claim the policy benefit. It promises 90 percent of the claim will be shared between the attorney allegedly involved and the potential victim, with the remaining 10 percent to be disbursed among unspecified charity organizations.
Authorities say letters requiring residents to send information by email, website or phone call and involving out-of-country financial matters, like this one does, is likely a scam. Residents who have questions about unsolicited requests such as this can call their local law enforcement office — and never give information as requested by the potential scammers.
