The United Way of the Flint Hills is nearing the end of its 2022-23 fundraising campaign.
On KVOE’s Morning Show on Tuesday, Chief Executive Officer Mickey Edwards unveiled information for the upcoming campaign celebration: Noon May 3 at the Lyon County Bowyer Community Building. Edwards says the celebration comes as community support remains strong — but fundraising trends have shifted.
With that in mind, part of the campaign celebration could well include the announcement of the next fundraising drive chairs as Lisa and Scott Hayes wrap up their duties.
Besides the ongoing campaign work for over 20 community partners in eight area counties, the United Way is also continuing work in other areas. It distributed its 150,000th book to area children through the Dolly Parton Imagination Library last fall. It is also seeing the first fruits of its Racial Equity Grant program and it has partnered with Imaginarium in an effort to earn $2,500 in ValuNet FIBER grant funding for STEM funding at two Emporia school meal sites during the summer. In addition, it’s helping to lead early policy discussions to help Emporia’s unhoused population.
