Windy conditions are likely for the KVOE listening area Thursday and Friday. Stormy conditions are also possible by late Thursday night.
Southerly winds between 10-20 mph Wednesday night will increase to 25-30 mph steadily by Thursday afternoon. Wind gusts could be between 40-50 mph. Friday could see steady southerly winds at 30-35 mph with gusts as high as 50-60 mph.
Considering those factors, the National Weather Service has issued wind advisories beginning early Thursday and fire weather watches for much of Friday. Wind advisories affect Lyon, Coffey, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties from noon Thursday to 4 am Friday, while Chase and Greenwood counties are in separate advisories from 11 am Thursday to 4 am Friday. Fire weather watches then follow for Lyon and most surrounding counties from 12-9 pm Friday. Chase and Greenwood counties, the exceptions, are in fire weather watches from 10 am-9 pm Friday.
Strong thunderstorms are still possible areawide early Friday morning. All area counties are in a marginal severe weather risk for the overnight hours. All severe weather hazards are possible but still unlikely.
