It has been a busy day for Lyon County firefighters.
Small brush fires have cropped up intermittently across the county, starting shortly before 2 pm after a fire developed near Roads 350 and W-7. Miller and Reading crews handled that incident.
Emporia and Olpe handled a small fire that developed in the 1200 block of Road 137 shortly before 4 pm. The fire burned less than an acre in a wooded area and still had some trees smoldering when crews left by 6 pm.
Emporia also responded to the 2800 block of Road P shortly after 7 pm. Details about that incident are currently pending.
Winds have been as high as 24 mph Wednesday afternoon. Gusts will be as high as 50 mph Thursday and 60 mph Friday, and with a lot of controlled burns taking place Wednesday, landowners are being advised to make sure they are completely out before fire conditions deteriorate.
