The Emporia High softball team opened its season with a split over Hayden Friday.
Emporia High won game one 10-7 before Hayden bounced back in game two, 12-0, in five innings.
In game one, Emporia High got two in the first before Hayden took a 4-2. The Lady Spartans tied the game with two in the third before Hayden tacked on one in the bottom of the third.
Emporia High added four in the fourth and two in the seventh for a 10-5 lead. Hayden added two more in the seventh.
Addie Kirmer went 4-for-4 with two RBIs. Aliva Anno was the winning pitcher, giving up seven runs on 11 hits and two strikeouts.
In game two, Emporia High was held to three hits. Hayden scored two each in the first three innings before putting up six in the fourth.
Adrianna Hernandez went 2-for-2 at the plate.
Emporia High is 1-1 on the season and 1-1 in Centennial League play. The Lady Spartans travel to Washburn Rural for a doubleheader on Tuesday.
