For the 28th consecutive year, Emporia State University closed out the month of March by honoring those who have dedicated their lives and efforts to increasing diversity and inclusion across the community.
The Greek Room of the ESU Memorial Union hosted the annual Women’s History Month celebration Friday afternoon. The festivities included the presentation of the Ruth Schillinger Award to Dr. Rebecca Rodriguez-Carey, the Mary Headrick award to Clara Corn, and the Susan B Anthony scholarship to Makayla Hallacy.
ESU Director of Ethnic and Gender Studies Mallory Koci says each of the recipients has gone above and beyond in serving both the ESU campus and Emporia community.
The celebration has been held at the end of March for the past several years for a very important reason according to Koci.
Since 1987, Women’s History Month has been observed every March to commemorate, encourage and celebrate the study of women’s roles in American history.
