Potential trial dates have been set in a Lyon County rape case.
Jovani Sotelo has trial possibly starting as early as June 12, with other trial settings of July 17 or July 24, after a hearing Thursday. A motions hearing in Sotelo’s case will be at 9:30 am May 10, followed by a status hearing June 7.
Judge Lee Fowler is presiding in this case.
Sotelo faces two counts of rape and one count of aggravated criminal sodomy after an alleged incident Jan. 8. All three counts have alternates involving the same charges as the initial counts — but they also accuse Sotelo of illegal sexual activity while the alleged victim was incapable of giving consent due to the use of alcohol or drugs.
Separately, a drug distribution case in Lyon County District Court is now a possession case after a hearing Thursday.
Wendy Gregg had initially been charged with distributing up to 450 grams of marijuana, as well as possessing paraphernalia, after an alleged incident March 16. The distribution count was dismissed Thursay and a marijuana possession count was added.
A pretrial hearing is set for 2 pm May 5 before Judge Laura Miser.
