Railroad crossing work is a hallmark of the spring and summer seasons, and quite a bit of crossing work is coming inside the city limits soon.
Burlington Northern Santa Fe is planning to close crossings at several streets in central and east Emporia, including:
*Weaver Street
*Carter Street
*Peyton Street
*East Street
*Merchant Street
*Constitution Street
Most crossings will be closed no more than three days, but the closings at Constitution and Merchant will likely be closed up to three weeks for what’s called high-speed track resurfacing.
Work could begin as soon as Saturday.
