Emporia State University celebrated Cesar Chavez Day and provided higher education resources to Hispanic and Latino high school students Friday.
This is the second year of this event where more than 100 Hispanic and Latino high school students explored the different programs, scholarships and student organizations Emporia State has while also commemorating Cesar Chavez a civil rights activist for migrant workers.
This is a completely bilingual event and was created as a community engagement project. The Dean of Emporia State Honors College Dr. Gary Wyatt says this is a great opportunity to connect with the students of the Hispanic/Latino community and their families.
In collaboration with the Emporia Migrant Education Program, Hispanics of Today and Tomorrow, USD 253 and ESU admissions the event hopes to motivate students to pursue higher education.
USD 253 Migrant Education Coordinator Patricia Saenz-Reyes says she is proud of the Cesar Chavez Day event and knows it will grow and reach more members of the Hispanic/Latino community in the following years.
