The Lyon County Highway Department says projects either underway now or coming this year will be emphasized by a change in traffic flow coming from two bridge closures northeast of Emporia.
Here’s County Engineer Chip Woods with the county project update:
Work on these county highways is taking on a bigger emphasis as the Kansas Turnpike Authority closes bridges officially at Turnpike mile markers 132.992 and 134.893, or five and seven miles northeast of the Emporia gate. The Lyon County project will include new guardrails, protection of bridge piers, improved slopes and overall bridge rehab work.
Woods expects an official detour involving US Highway 56 around the K-99 work zones, but he also expects commercial trucks will use paved county highways like Allen Road, Americus Road and Burlingame Road instead.
