The Emporia State baseball team defeated Newman 9-1 to win game 1 of a 3 game series Thursday.

T J Racherbaumer drove in two runs with a groundout in the 2nd inning and a single in the 6th inning.
Mason Sturdy also drove in two runs, one with a double in the 7th inning and one with a single in the 9th inning.
Graham Brunner was the winning pitcher going 7 innings giving up 1 run on 5 hits and 4 strikeouts.
Emporia State and Newman will play game 2 of the series Friday afternoon.
