Easter weekend is packed with activities in and out of Emporia.
Activities start in Americus with the Flint Hills Gravel Ride. Organizer Bobby Thompson says there are a lot of options to participate.
Activities actually begin Friday with an athlete check-in and “swag bag grab,” followed by a sponsor meeting, shakeout ride and a spaghetti supper benefiting Project Playscape. Rides and run/walks are staggered through Saturday morning beginning at 7:30 am.
Another huge activity is the Flint Hills Optimist annual Easter egg hunt at Jones Park. Organizer Stan Fowler says the hunt itself begins at 10 am but parents are strongly encouraged to get their kids to the park by 9:30 am.
Also coming Saturday will be the 28th annual Spring Fling Bike Show, courtesy of ABATE of Kansas District 12. This will be at the Fairgrounds Anderson Building, with motorcycles and vendors from across Kansas in the building. Set-up begins at 7 am, with judging following at 11 am, an auction starting at 2:30 pm and the trophy presenttion at 5 pm.
Emporia’s Eastside Community Group has two events this weekend, the annual fundraising fish fry from 11 am to 5 pm at Lee Beran Recreation Center and an Easter egg hunt at Eastside Park beginning at 4 pm Sunday. A $10 donation is suggested for Saturday’s meal.
The Emporia High Theatre Department has a mini-golf fundraiser from 2-6 pm Saturday outside Mr. Goodcents. Cost is $5 a person with proceeds helping theater students attend a trip this summer.
Sunday will have Cars and Coffee, a gathering of classic cars outside Maud’s Tattoo Company at 720 Commercial. The event goes from 9-11 am.
