Recently, Unbound Gravel used a longstanding rumor to highlight and announce deeper roots — not uprooted ones — in Emporia.
Unbound used an April Fool’s joke noting longstanding concerns about the gravel cycling event’s rumored move to Manhattan — and then used social media to announce a new headquarters at 714 Commercial. Unbound Marketing Manager Kristi Mohn had details on KVOE’s Newsmaker segment Friday.
The rumors about Unbound’s possible move out of Emporia have grown as the size of the Unbound suite of races has blossomed over the years. Unbound leaders have repeatedly refuted the rumors, and Mohn calls last weekend’s announcements a demonstration of Life Time’s commitment to Emporia.
Over 4,000 riders are expected for this year’s races in early June.
Unbound says the new office will serve as office space for six local employees and will be the hub of other world-class events developed and hosted by Life Time. Unbound is keeping its current address at 11 West Eighth, but it’s turning that space into a warehouse.
