The Emporia Golf Course will be receiving its first major renovation in a long while.
Twenty-seven new tee boxes will be installed into the course, shortening the total course length by around 800 yards. Course manager Marcus Erkel says that this addition should, in the end, make play more enjoyable for everybody.
While some tee boxes will be installed completely new, twenty-five out of twenty-seven will be put in front of the old ones. Erkel states that the overall installation process should be “relatively seamless.”
In addition to the updated tee boxes, the Emporia Golf Course will also switch those to Zoysia grass. This change allows golfers to play on a more even field, as well as saving water and reducing chemicals.
Construction begins next week and should finish in approximately two to three weeks. Aeration will close the course Tuesday and Wednesday.
