As has been the case since Friday, Monday had a handful of burns that needed to be put out by area firefighters.
Numerous fire departments were called out to US Highway 56 and Road C, about 25 miles northwest of Emporia and three miles west of Bushong, for a grass fire that developed after 2 pm. Crews also had to battle grass fires near Roads 180 and C and in the 200 block of Road E. Details with these fires are pending.
An air quality advisory remains in effect for all area counties until further notice.
Weather conditions will go from almost ideal for burning to potentially critical this week. Continued warm temperatures in the low 80s will combine with increasing southerly winds and humidity levels below 30 percent to increase the fire danger starting Tuesday and continuing into the next chance of storm activity Friday. Outdoor burns will likely be strongly discouraged Wednesday, Thursday and much of Friday.
