Emporia Fire continues an investigation into a structure fire in south-central Emporia on Wednesday evening.
The fire was reported shortly after 7:45 pm at 406 South Market, prompting a response from Emporia, Americus and Olpe fire departments.
Emporia Fire Capt. Willie Ward says firefighters found the blaze on the back porch. The fire then extended to the back side of the house exterior and also moved to a detached garage. There are no indications the fire moved inside the house. Ward says the garage fire was limited to the siding.
The cause is currently under investigation.

Emporia Fire is investigating after a structure fire in south-central Emporia on Wednesday evening.
The fire was reported shortly after 7:45 pm at 406 South Market, prompting a response from Emporia, Americus and Olpe fire departments. Emporia Fire Capt. Willie Ward says there were people inside the house when the fire started, but they all got out safely.
The cause is under investigation. Ward says the early indications have the fire limited to the first-floor exterior in the southeast corner. There are currently no indications the fire moved to the house’s interior.
