Temporary traffic changes look to be a big part of the Lyon County Commission’s action meeting Thursday.
Commissioners will discuss whether to suspend the “no thru commercial traffic rules” in effect for years on Burlingame Road with a detour now underway on Kansas Highway 99 as improvements begin on one of two bridges north of Emporia through the Kansas Turnpike Authority. The county has not allowed any thru truck traffic on Burlingame Road since 2015 and on Allen Road or Americus Road since 2016 because of deteriorating highway conditions, but County Engineer Chip Woods is expecting increased traffic of all kinds on the paved county roads while bridge improvements continue — perhaps as long as November before this project ends.
In other business, commissioners may approve a resolution to post a 15-ton weight limit on Road 170 east of Road E while the county continues repairs on one bridge. A resolution about unpaid personal property tax judgments and two executive sessions are planned, along with a tour of the Lyon County Emergency Communications Center.
The meeting starts at 9 am at the County Courthouse Commission Chambers.
