A man accused of attempted murder in one Lyon County case will be sentenced for drug possession in another case.
Logan Dale Casteel pleaded no contest to single counts of drug and paraphernalia possession as part of a hearing in February. Sentencing will be at 10:30 am Friday.
Casteel remains charged with one count of attempted murder after allegedly shooting Justin Smith at 625 Road 160, just southwest of Emporia, back in October. A motions hearing in the case is coming April 21. Trial is tentatively set for July 17.
Meanwhile, sentencing is coming Friday morning in a Lyon County drug distribution case as Eric Joseph Powers will be in court at 11 am.
Powers was initially charged with distributing between 100 and 1,000 “dosage units” of tetrahydrocannabinol, as well as possessing drug paraphernalia and several traffic violations, after an alleged incident in June. Powers pleaded no contest to distributing less than 10 dosage units last month. The remaining counts were dropped as part of a plea agreement.
