There’s no disputing that the individuals who serve as emergency dispatchers are a rare breed. But just as the individuals handling the calls is the facility in which they work.
As part of National Public Safety Telecommunicator Week, KVOE News recently sat down with Lyon County Emergency Communications Center Director Roxanne Van Gundy. During the interview, Van Gundy explained that LCECC is one of roughly 20 communications centers across 105 counties that is recognized as a “stand-alone” center.
Van Gundy says when it comes to being a stand-alone center there are numerous benefits, one of those being the chain of command is much smaller and therefore allows for quicker more efficient communication between the agency and governing bodies.
National Public Safety Telecommunicator Week will continue through Saturday.
