An elevated fire risk Friday afternoon leads to a marginal-to-slight risk of severe weather by Friday evening.
Temperatures in the 80s and southerly winds at or above 30 mph will keep the fire danger elevated, although increasing humidity will bring that danger down from the critical levels seen Wednesday and especially Thursday.
Storms are expected across the area by late evening, but the severe weather picture has changed since area counties were first announced in a risk area Wednesday. Instead of all area counties in a slight risk, areas along and west of a line from Harveyville to Miller to Virgil are in a slight risk and areas east of that line are in a marginal risk. The main concerns are hail up to half-dollar size, or 1.25 inches in diameter, and 70-mph winds, but the main risk areas are well west or northwest of the KVOE listening area. Tornadoes are not expected.
Looking ahead, showers and storms may linger through much of Saturday, with more rain possible by Tuesday night. An elevated fire danger returns Sunday.
