An equipment failure led to a response from Emporia Fire and Evergy crews early Sunday night.
Crews responded to the 1700 block of Prairie Street at 6 pm for reports of sparks on a power line. According to Batallion Chief Eron Steinlage, crews found a loose power line sparking upon arrival and called Evergy to the scene.
Steinlage says there was some scorching to other lines on the pole, however, there was no damage to homes in the area and no injuries were reported. According to Evergy, the sparking was the result of a failed switch.
Traffic on Prairie from 15th to 18th was blocked briefly as Evergy crews made repairs. Traffic resumed as normal in the area roughly an hour later.
