North Lyon County firefighters had two stubborn grass fires to put out Monday.
Allen-Admire, Miller and Reading fire crews handled a 10-acre fire that developed in the 1900 block of Road 370 early Monday afternoon. As firefighters were getting that fire under control, a second fire developed along US Highway 56 near Road S-5.
Allen-Admire Fire Chief Tharon Mott says the US Highway 56 fire burned about 30 acres.
Both fires were initially controlled burns. Wind speeds at the Emporia Municipal Airport ranged from 15-30 mph for much of Monday afternoon.
