Two Emporia State University professors may be getting their positions back at some point.
The Office of Administrative Hearings has voted to reinstate Rob Catlett and Amanda Miracle, according to Kansas Reflector. Both were terminated last fall as Emporia State began what it has been calling a reinvestment process that has included several new programs, as well as the dismissals of over 30 faculty and staff — many, like Catlett and Miracle, were tenured professors.
Additional details from the Office of Administrative Hearings are pending.
A statement from Emporia State’s Marketing and Communication Department says: “Emporia State appreciates the Office of Administrative Hearings and their time, effort and energy. While ESU has received these initial decisions, there are several decisions that have yet to be issued. The university will continue to move forward with our plans to restructure and invest in the successful elevation of our academic programs.”
Miracle and fellow ESU professor Chris Lovett had sought a writ of mandamus from the Kansas Supreme Court, which could have opened up the door for the Supreme Court to force a lower court to take action in their case. The Supreme Court declined.
