Emporia State Athletics held its Hall of Honor Induction Ceremony for the 2022 class Thursday night.
Those inducted last night were:
Angela Mahon, An All-American softball player. Who was the MIAA Player of the Year in 2011 her senior season.
Track and Field Athletes Josh Honeycutt the 2009 National Champion for the Indoor Triple Jump.
Laura Mayo the 1998 National Champion in the Hammer Throw.
Lance Nichols played both baseball and basketball. He had a 7-year minor league baseball career with the Dodgers and was a minor league manager for the Expos, Cardinals, and Orioles. He is also a member of the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame and Kansas Baseball Hall of Fame.
And The men’s 1936 Distance Medley Relay team of Duward Crooms, Norman Rhoads, Paul Bridges, and Archie San Romani that set a world record at the 1936 KU Relays.
Rainer Martens and Marcella Bayon who are also part of the 2022 class were unable to attend last nights ceremony and will be inducted at a later date.
Rainer Martens, who played baseball later became the president and founder of Human Kinetics, the world’s largest publisher of information about the sport sciences, physical education, sports, and fitness. Martens founded the American Sport Education Program (ASEP) which is the leading provider of youth, high school, and elite-level sport education programs in the United States.
Marcella Bayon was a tennis player. She was a 7-time All-MIAA selection.
