Several drop-off points are set up areawide as part of National Drug Take Back Day on Saturday.
Residents can go to the following locations between 10 am and 2 pm to drop off unwanted or unused prescription drugs:
*Burlington Police Department, 616 S Third in Burlington
*Morris County Sheriff’s Office, Morris County Courthouse in Council Grove
*Osage County Sheriff’s Office, 131 14th in Lyndon
*Wabaunsee County Sheriff’s Office, 215 Kansas in Alma
Lyon County is not officially taking part, but authorities say residents can bring their medications to CVS or Walmart for safe disposal at any time.
All medications brought in through this program are incinerated by the Drug Enforcement Agency. The goal is to reduce the availability of these drugs for illegal purposes and also to reduce any negative impact the medications can have on water supplies.
The program was established in 2010 and has safely handled well over 110 tons of medications just in Kansas. More information is available online at the DEA’s special information page at www.dea.gov/takebackday.
