Southern Lyon County students and area veterans are on their way to the nation’s capital Monday morning.
The district’s 11th Honor Flight hit the road shortly after 2 am. After landing in Baltimore, the contingent goes straight to Washington, DC. Olpe High student Ethan Redeker is on his first trip.
Hartford student Elizabeth Kelly is on her second trip, and she has advice for students — like Redeker — who are going for the first time.
Hartford student Emily Kelly went last fall and says it was hard to pinpoint one memory that she will treasure above the rest.
Several aspects of the trip have Olpe student Blake Skalsky looking forward to the next two days.
Veterans, students, medical staff and district administrators will return late Tuesday evening. The program pairs veterans with students on a jam-packed, two-day trip to Washington and back to see a host of memorials and other national attractions, both in the nation’s capital and nearby.
