Emporia State University choirs will perform their last concert of this Spring semester with a unique program this upcoming Saturday night.
The title of this year’s program is Let Us March On: Voices of the Black Diaspora and will feature different songs from Black and African American composers.
Emporia State Univeristy Interim Choral Director Dr. Joshua Donaldson says this is a very special concert because the songs are inspired by the civil rights movement era and the current situation Black and African American communities face in the country.
This concert is also the program that the ESU A Capella Choir will perform in their tour to Washington D.C. to participate in the 60th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I Have A Dream speech this May.
Donaldson says that he has seen a lot of growth in the members of ESU choirs A Capella, Chamber Singers and Chorale, and this concert shows their commitment to create positive change through music.
The Let Us March On: Voices of the Black Diaspora concert will start at 7:30 p.m. this Saturday, April 29 at the First United Methodist Church.
The cost for adults is $5, for students and senior citizens is $4 and children under 13 years old have free entrance.
