GRANADA THEATRE: Schneider lists priorities as community involvement, expansion of performing schedule

It turns out the Emporia Granada Theatre’s permanent director has already been leading the facility the last eight months.

Stacey Schneider has been the Granada’s interim director since August after the Theatre Alliance Board and former director Rebeca Herrera separated. On Wednesday, Theatre Alliance Board President Brad Yount announced Schneider as the permanent director after a national search. Schneider tells KVOE News she considered her options before agreeing to the job.

Schneider has several goals for the theater going forward, including a focus on community events, expanding the performing schedule — including bigger acts but also more opportunities for local talent — and getting the community more involved in the theater.

The Emporia Granada Theatre has its permanent director.

Stacey Schneider, the interim director since August and an administrative assistant immediately beforehand, was named as director by the Granada Theatre Alliance on Wednesday.

Schneider is an Emporia native and has worked for the theater since September 2021, although Board President Brad Yount says she has been involved with the theater and the local arts community for years, including the theater’s renovation process before it reopened in 2008. She has also served as a music education representative at Flint Hills Music.

Schneider replaces Rebeca Herrera, who served as Granada’s director from the end of 2019 to this past August.
