Facility matters was the main topic for USD 251 North Lyon County Board of Education in a special meeting Wednesday night at North Lyon County Elementary in Americus.
A 30-page study, conducted by G Kent Stewart, involved enrollment trends, building overviews, maintenance and results from past referendums on new school facilities over the past decade.
This isn’t the first time facility matters have been brought up in the district. Three previous referendums have failed for voting for new K-12, Pre-K or 6-12 buildings between October 2015 and November 2017.
USD 251 Superintendent Bob Blair says the board of education wants to do what’s best for the district this time around.
A 13-member strategic planning committee has been formed to help assist the board and the district to help assist in what’s coming for the district.
The committee won’t meet until May 31, which gives more time for the committee, board members and Blair time to dive more into Stewart’s study. Blair says the district is ‘warming up’ to what could be a big decision for the future.
Blair added the discussions will be starting at the perfect time with school being out of session for the summertime.
