Along with two injured people and an undetermined number of livestock either killed or hurt, there was another casualty from last week’s tornadoes in Chase County: an injured bald eagle.
Operation Wildlife says the eagle was found during cleanup efforts late last week. Kansas Wildife and Parks Game Wardens ultimately transferred the eagle to Operation Wildlife, a publicly funded rehab property in Linwood.
Operation Wildlife says the eagle suffered a broken wing, an infection and “substantial” blood loss. Surgery to repair the wing took around three hours to complete. The nonprofit is raising funds to help the recovery.
More information about the eagle and related fundraising efforts is on the Operation Lifesaver Facebook page.
Eight tornadoes touched down in Chase County on April 19 as the result of a supercell thunderstorm. Two people were hurt in separate tornado-related wrecks, with one person taken to Newman Regional Health for treatment and another person declining medical care despite minor injuries.
