Emporia State has named the faculty member receiving the university’s highest honor for professors.
Dr. Elizabeth Dobler, a professor in the Elementary Education, Early Childhood and Special Education Department, was surprised by Dean of the Teachers College Joan Brewer and President Ken Hush at the end of her John King Endowed Professor Lecture on Thursday.
Dobler was an Emporia State student, receiving a bachelor of science in education degree in 1985. She was a teacher for over a decade in Geary County and Topeka Seaman, joining the ESU faculty initially as an adjunct instructor before becoming a full-time faculty member in 1998 and a full professor in 2012.
Dobler receives a $1,000 check for professional activities. She also becomes the winter commencement speaker this upcoming December.
The award recognizes the professor who “best demonstrates teaching excellence, professional activities, fostering of intellectual atmosphere, service to the university outside the classroom and status as a student mentor.”
