A Morris County man is in custody following a short foot pursuit in Chase County Saturday morning.
According to Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper Shayne Boswell, a traffic stop was initiated just before 7:30 am for an alleged traffic infraction at the intersection of US Highway 50 and ZZ Road, nearly 12 miles west of Emporia. Boswell tells KVOE News the driver of the vehicle, later identified as Jeffrey Richard Prafke of Dwight, initially complied and pulled over, however, he later exited the vehicle and fled on foot.
Authorities pursued Prafke into a nearby treeline and apprehended him without incident roughly ten minutes later. Prafke was arrested on charges of felony interference with law enforcement, criminal trespass and driving while suspended.
Prafke also has two felony warrants out for his arrest, one in Harvey County for unlawful possession of amphetamine and flee and elude as well as one in Marion County for possession with intent to distribute. Formal charges from Saturday’s incident are currently pending.
Prafke is being held in the Chase County jail at last word. KHP was assisted by Lyon and Chase County authorities.
