The Emporia Saint Patrick’s Committee has culminated its annual fundraising burst by distributing checks to its beneficiaries.
As has been the case for years, committee members came to the KVOE studios for the announcements — this time for Talk of Emporia. Committee member Barb Lowery says this year saw a level of partnership among the beneficiaries she hasn’t seen in years past.
Hetlinger Developmental Services Director Jill Burton says the committee’s gifts, such as the $1,500 Hetlinger received, represents a desire to improve the area’s quality of life.
This was a year of change for the committee, which used a week-long online auction instead of the longstanding one-night auction at Bruffs Sports Bar and Grill as well as an increased emphasis on corporate sponsorships.
All told, nearly $17,000 was distributed, pushing the grand fundraising total to at least $400,000. The totals by community group are online at KVOE.com.
