Kansas lawmakers overrode many of Governor Laura Kelly’s vetoes over the past week, but they didn’t override all of them.
Despite the majority voting to overturn in both chambers, lawmakers failed to reach the two-thirds votes needed to override the governor’s veto of Senate Bill 209, which would have ended the three-day grace period for mailed advance ballots to be received and counted in elections. 17th District Senator Jeff Longbine of Emporia voted for the override.
Lawmakers officially return to Topeka in January for the 2024 session.
