Once again, Emporia Main Street has been recognized as one of the very best programs across the nation by Main Street America.
It was announced Wednesday that Emporia Main Street was among a little more than 800 other national programs to receive accreditation through Main Street America. Since 1991, Emporia Main Street has been recognized with this distinction putting it amongst the very elite in the US.
Main Street Director Casey Woods says innovation is one of the key factors in the accreditation process and something Emporia excels at year after year.
The announcement of the accreditation follows a historic year for Emporia Main Street. In 2022, Main Street was involved in the development of the first upper-story Rural Housing Incentive District project in the state of Kansas, opened the region’s first fabrication lab, introduced new technology and programs to assist entrepreneurial development and was scored in the 93rd percentile of similar communities by a third party assessment.
According to a recent news release, collectively over the past year Main Street America programs helped to generate an estimated $6.2 billion in local reinvestment while opening more than 7,600 net new businesses, creating over 29,100 new jobs and rehabilitating 10,688 historic buildings across the nation.
