Osage County authorities now say they found two people dead after two separate fires Wednesday.
Sheriff Chris Wells says the latest fire was reported shortly before 4:30 pm near Quenemo after an out-of-control grass fire. As firefighters worked to extinguish the fire, they found the body of 84-year-old Leo O Williams of Osage City in a field.
Wells says firefighters from Quenemo, Melvern and Lyndon responded immediately, along with deputies, Osage County investigators and Osage County EMS.
This follows a destructive house fire earlier in the day near Melvern which led to the discovery of 61-year-old Debbie Booth inside the home. The Office of Kansas State Fire Marshal is helping with both investigations. Causes and origination points have not been announced with either fire.
