The Emporia High baseball team extended its winning streak to two opening the Spartan Classic against Dodge City.
Emporia High held Dodge City to just two hits in an 11-0 victory in five innings.
Emporia High scored four in the second inning highlighted by an RBI single by Drew Hess. Max Rusco had a 2-run single to cap the inning off.
The Spartans added six in the third highlighted by a bases-clearing double by Owen Ruge. Bobby Trujillo had an RBI single and Madden Seidl had a sacrifice fly.
Emporia High added an RBI by Hess in the fourth.
Ruge allowed two hits and struck out 10 while also going 3-for-4 at the plate with two doubles and three RBIs.
Hess went 2-f0r-3 at the plate with two RBIs. He was one of five seniors honored before the game.
Coach Anthony Markowitz says the win was a team effort.
Emporia High is now 2-14 on the season. They’ll wrap up play in the Spartan Classic at 2 p.m. Saturday against Maize South.
