Emporia Fire says a camping trip Friday led to a destructive fire Saturday.
A vehicle fire was reported in the 3600 block of Whitetail Lane shortly before 2 pm. EFD Battalion Chief Eron Steinlage says firefighters arrived to find the truck fully involved in fire along with a charcoal grill in the truck bed. The fire was quickly put out, but not before the truck and all its contents, including the grill, were destroyed.
Steinlage says the currently unnamed owners of the truck went camping Friday and left the grill in the truck bed when they returned home. Gusty south winds above 30 mph rekindled the charcoal.
No injuries were reported.
