The Emporia State track and field teams wrapped up competition in the MIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships Sunday.
The Emporia State men finished ninth with 44.5 points, while the women finished 10th with 23 points.
Emporia State had 11 scorers on the final day of the meet.
The top finish on the final day of the meet came from Travis Morrison. Morrison finished second in the shot put with a provisional qualifying mark of 58-5. Will Herren finished seventh with a personal best throw of 52-9.
In the 400m hurdles, Brock Merz was fourth (54.01), Davion Scott finished sixth (54.13) and Chase Rooney took eighth (1:00.23).
Xavier Hall was seventh in the 110m hurdles (14.55).
The 4x100m relay team of Kingsley Bennett, Carter Cox, Jack Watson, and Isaac Tarango finished seventh (41.19).
The 4x400m relay team of Guy Ramos, Watson, Merz, and Julian Johnson finished seventh (3:14.55).
On the women’s side, the 4x100m relay team of Jasmine Hurla, Kadaisha Mpwo, Lauren Carlson, and Ashley Wilderman finished seventh (47.33).
Jasmine Hurla finished eighth in the 400m (58.16)
Ashley Cookson finished eighth in the triple jump (35-5.25).
After the meet concluded, Emporia State’s Kynzie Underwood was recognized as the MIAA “A” Game Scholar-Athlete. Underwood has a 4.0 GPA in biochemistry and molecular biology.
Emporia State is scheduled to travel to the Loper Last Chance Qualifier on Saturday. There’s a possibility Emporia State could go to other meets depending on schedules and weather to give athletes the best opportunity to qualify for nationals.
