Vintage Baseball in Emporia began a new season and with a new name Saturday afternoon at the Howe House.
The newly named ‘Emporia Nine’ took the field for a game against the Wichita Cowtown Vintage Baseball Club
Lyon County History Center Director Greg Jordan says it’s important to celebrate a part of America’s past time in Emporia.
Besides the baseball game, attendees could tour the Howe House which is the second oldest building in Lyon County according to Jordan. Attendees could also walk on the nature trail and visit Good Way Gardens.
Emporia Nine player Arnie ‘Whiskers’ Anderson says the event is great to have on an annual basis.
Emporia Nine’s General Manager Angela “Mystery Al” Anderson says the support is incredible with being incorporated with the history center for the event.
The Emporia Nine will next be in action in Americus at 1 p.m. Saturday. The team will be playing an exhibition for the Americus Baseball Field Complex Grand Opening.
