Local 4Hers had the chance to hone their craft ahead of the traditional slate of 4H activities set for the summer.
The Lyon County Fairgrounds once again hosted the annual Gary Fuller Spring Classic show event Saturday and Sunday. Organizer, and wife of Gary Fuller, Lisa Fuller says 4H has been and continues to be a family affair.
Gary Fuller was heavily involved with local 4H activities throughout his life up until his passing several years ago in a tree-related accident. The spring classic was renamed in his honor back in 2015 and Lisa Fuller says if he were here today Gary would be honored and humbled to know his love and passion for 4H is living on through the event.
Top competitors in the two-day event received various prizes including points that can be converted into currency for the purchase of animal care supplies to assist them in the rest of their 4H journeys. Lisa Fuller tells KVOE News the Spring Classic is a great way for young 4Hers to gain more experience inside of the show arena ahead of the annual Lyon County Fair later this year.
The Spring Classic is just one of the events put on each year to honor the memory of Gary Fuller. The sixth annual Gary Fuller Memorial Shootout which raises funds for championship belt buckles, scholarships and prizes for 4H competitors will take place in October.
Saturday’s half of the competition featured sheep, goats and beef with Sunday’s activities focusing on Swine.
