Storms bring high wind, borderline severe hail, brief heavy rain to KVOE territory

Scattered tree and power pole damage were part of the aftermath following severe thunderstorm activity Tuesday.
A bow echo, where the middle of a thunderstorm line pushes out well ahead of the north and south ends, moved across the area through mid- and late afternoon hours. Power poles were downed in central Chase County, leading to nearly 300 Evergy customers losing power in places like Cottonwood Falls, Strong City and Elmdale. Poles were also downed in Greenwood County. All Evergy outages have since been restored.
Several wind gusts were reported as high as 60 mph, but the Overbrook area had gusts between 70-80 mph and the Eureka airport had gusts above 70 mph.
Storms also generated quarter-sized hail in Allen, Elmdale and Osage City. Brief heavy rain was also noted in several places:

*Lebo: 1.3 inches
*Neosho Rapids: 1 inch
*Olpe: 1 inch
*Reading: 1.5 inches
*1 mile north of Saffordville: 1.65 inches
*Thorndale: 1 inch
Storms are possible Wednesday, although severe weather is not expected. Thursday has a slight severe weather risk for all hazards.
