As has been the case for years, the Lyon County Transfer Station was a busy place for Free Landfill Days.
Solid Waste Supervisor Keith Senn sees several reasons as to why:
With a few exceptions, namely tires or appliances with refrigerants, residents could dump up to 1,000 pounds of items free of charge if they had their April electric bill receipt. Nearly 820 residents took advantage of the program between April 29 to this past Sunday, causing occasional long lines — especially on Saturday and Sundays, which saw traffic occasionally backed up to the Lyon County Household Hazardous Waste Facility two buildings east of the Transfer Station.
Senn says over 120 tons of general trash were dumped along with 35 tons of construction/demolition debris.
